Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree or Diploma in Nursing, and
- Current nursing (RN) license in the United States or Canada, and
- A minimum of two years current experience as a Registered Nurse, of which at least one must be in the specialty area, working in a mid- to large-sized acute-care hospital in North America.
Department Information
The Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) Unit cares for Adult and Pediatric patients on peritoneal dialysis in hospital. The patients and caregivers are educated in all aspects of PD i.e., Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) and Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD) to dialyze independently and safely at home. The patient is provided with on going follow-up care. The staff provides support and education for all areas in the hospital including critical care areas in relation to peritoneal dialysis.
Frequent Procedures/Services/Functions:
- Peritoneal dialysis procedures
- Pre-PD Assessment
- Patient and Family education
- Follow protocols for administration of PD
- Kinetic modeling
- Perform Peritoneal Equilibration Test (PET) and Peritoneal Function Test (PFT)
- Nursing Assessment and use of Nursing Process
- Staff education
- Psychosocial support
- Medication administration including immunization
- Medication and Take home supply refill
- Dressing Changes post catheter insertion
Hours of Operation:
9 hr days: 0800 - 1800 Saturday - Tuesday
8 hr day: 0800 - 1700 Wednesday
On call service: After hours on weekdays and weekends
