Department Information

The Cancer Centre at our client hospital is a newly established structure for cancer care of adult patients with a mission of providing excellent cancer treatment, education and research by means of integrated team work and the vision to become the best international centre for cancer research, prevention, and treatment. Accredited by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a Collaborating Centre for Cancer Prevention and Control, CC patients are assessed in multidisciplinary clinics and treated in accordance with disease specific internationally accepted management guidelines.
The Research Unit provides support for research projects and serves as a hospital base for cancer and bone marrow transplantation registries. CC continues to be actively involved in institutional, national, and international research protocols with priority given to those addressing national oncology problems. CC houses the National Cancer Registry and the Gulf Council Countries (GCC) Cancer Registry which defines population-based incidence of cancer in the Kingdom. The goal of CC is to establish an internationally renowned Cancer Institute to meet the ever growing needs of patients with cancer and hematological disorders.

The Section of Adult Hematology/BMT is responsible for the investigation and management of adults with a variety of hematological malignancies, mostly acute and chronic leukemias, myelodysplastic syndromes, multiple myeloma but also several non-malignant hematological disorders such as aplastic anemia, hemoglobinopathies, hemophilia, etc. The Section is also responsible for an extensive hematopoietic stem cell transplantation program, with focus on allogeneic stem cell transplantation. In both of these areas, a complete set of practices and treatment guidelines are available in the format of a pocket handbook. Hospital facilities include an Acute Leukemia Unit of 15 beds, an intermediate level Intensive Care Unit of 5 beds, and a Bone Marrow Transplant Unit of 15 beds. Patients with hematological malignancies are followed in outpatient clinics, while stem cell transplantation patients are being followed in a specialized bone marrow transplant clinic. The Section is presently staffed by 7 Board-certified Consultants, 5 Assistant Physicians and one Fellow.

Prior to offering a permanent (1-2 years) contract, the hospital may invite doctors for a one-month locum. This provides an opportunity to visit the hospital, check out the department, and see Riyadh and Saudi Arabia. This gives you the time to decide if all your critical needs and desires such as geography, income potential, practice style, administrative agendas, and community profile line up with your long-term goals.
